Movember, the global mens health charity now in its fourth year, is growing by leaps and bounds in Canada. This year, 118,597 Canadians across the country joined the movement by grow- ing a Mo (slang for moustache) to raise awareness and funds for a critical cause prostate cancer. This year more than $19 million has been raised for Prostate Cancer Canada, with funds continu- ing to pour in. It is truly amazing to see Canadians embrace Movember this has been a record year, said Movember Co-Founder and CEO Adam Garone. Thank you to all the passionate Mo Bros and Sistas that have engaged their families, friends, colleagues and communities to be a part of the Movember movement. Every moustache makes a difference, together we will change the face of mens health. Movember is a month-long fundraising cam- paign where male participants, known as Mo Bros, start the month of November with a clean- shaven face, then grow their stylish moustache throughout the month. This hairy ribbon is designed to start conversations about prostate cancer and mens health issues. Women, or Mo Sistas, help by getting the word out, recruiting Mo Bros to participate and collecting donations for Prostate Cancer Canada. For the first time in Movembers history, Canada is leading the global efforts, with Australia not far behind in second place. If you havent had a chance to donate yet, it isn't too late. For more information, visit www.Movember.com. Besides the much-needed money for prostate cancer research in improvements in screening procedures and treatment strategies that have yet to be uncovered the event sheds a needed light on a type of cancer that is often ignored. The fun isnt over for the Mo Bros, yet. There are still some great prizes to be won. The International Man of Movember will be announced in December. And the best way to win in Movember, is to call your doctor to arrange for an examination, if you havent already done so. MIRA HELLMANN, OAKVILLE Donation not worth investigating Pud BY STEVE NEASE neasecartoons@gmail.com Thanks for your support The organizers of Eric's Amazing Race Car Rally and Silent Auction would like to take a moment to say thank you to the many people in the Burlington, Oakville and Flamborough area who helped make this years 8th Annual event a massive success. This years event set records in par- ticipation in both the Car Rally and Silent Auction portions of the day. Highlights included a Kids Korner sponsored by City Parent, a Sucker Pull sponsored by Weeks Home Hardware of Waterdown, a perform- ance by Scott Graham of Kids4Kids Leadership Program and The Burlington Teen Tour Band Drum Line. The end result was that more than $17,000 has been raised for Jesse's Journey and Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) research. This brings the eight-year total for this event to more than $120,000. As an organizing team we are very proud of this accomplishment but most of all we are optimistic that as a result of funding DMD research a cure is immi- nent. This optimism would not be possi- ble were it not for literally hundreds of people who provide support to this event through participation, publicity, donations or words of encouragement. Thank you once again and we look forward to seeing you on Saturday Nov. 5, 2011. TED LINDSAY, THE ERIC'S AMAZING RACE TEAM Ted Lindsay and his nephew Eric Morden, of Oakville I agree with the notion that nuclear weapons should be banned, but let's start with North Korea, move northward to China then on to Pakistan and India, fol- lowed by Russia and most urgently, Iran. Once we've solved the issues in those coun- tries we can work on the USA. Then we can make certain that Oakville doesn't seek to acquire nuclear weapons. RONALD REA, OAKVILLE Where nuclear weapons should be banned first
