List of mayor and council office renovation charges Contrary to Knolls opinion, Robinson said these new rooms are fre- quently used. Ward 6 Town and Regional Councillor Tom Adams said while he was not aware of the final cost of the renovations, he believes they are an improvement over what was there before. I think, generally speaking ,the whole space is better used than it was, he said. The space now also accommo- dates the ability to have some staff there that werent there before. There are more people per square foot than there used to be in that area. Adams said the boardroom table is regularly used by the mayor and council members for internal meetings with staff and for meetings with people outside the organization. He said the mayor has a small meet- ing table in his office, which is also used regularly for meetings. Council members now share a single office, which Adams said is not a problem as each council member has a home office. If you compare that to the Burlington model where they all have their own space at Town Hall and their own administrative assistants, he said. The cost of corporate governance would be about the same, but you have more access to your representatives in Oakville because you have 12 councillors instead of six. Adams also said councillors were aware of the renovation project and gen- erally were asked for their opinion about what they wanted to see and what they needed. Ward 3 Town and Regional Councillor Keith Bird would not comment on what he thinks of the changes, but said he does use the meeting rooms. When inter- viewed said he actually had an appoint- ment to meet someone in one the follow- ing day. Bird said $250,000 did seem like an inordinate amount of money to be spent on renovating the mayors suite and questioned some of the expenses, partic- ularly the furniture. Would some stuff from IKEA have done the trick? Probably, but would they have been the proper things? I dont know, said Bird. Boardroom used for internal meetings Continued from page 4 5 Friday , January 7, 2011 O A KVILLE BEA V ER w w w .o akvillebeaver .co m A 31-year old construction worker is in hospital with serious injuries following a Thursday accident at the condominium con- struction site at 2409 Ontario St. in Bronte Village. Police said the incident took place at around 1 p.m. when a 60-70 pound metal support beam fell from the seventh storey of the partial- ly-built structure at the foot of Bronte Road and injured the man who was working below. The victim received serious injuries to his head, face and upper torso and was transport- ed by ambulance to Hamilton General Hospital. The cause of the accident is unknown at this time and police have notified the Ministry of Labour, who have visited the scene and begun an investigation. The construction site has been closed pending the conclusion of this investigation. At press time the victim was listed in seri- ous, but stable condition.
