HARDIE, Maureen O n N o v e m b e r 8 t h , 2 0 1 0 , M a u r e e n p a s s e d a w a y p e a c e f u l l y a t h o m e following a courageous battle with lung cancer. Born on Apr i l 24 , 1939 , in Newcas t l e Eng l and , she a r r i v ed i n C a n a d a i n J a n u a r y o f 1 9 7 0 w i t h husband Malcolm. Or ig inal ly t ra ined as a nurse, she continued her service in the medical community by pursuing a d e g r e e i n S o c i a l W o r k , a n d dedicated over 20 years leading up to her re t i rement to the pro fess ion a t Oakvi l le Trafalgar Memorial Hospital . She remained actively engaged in her commun i t y a s a member o f CFUW and Bronte Harbour Yacht Club. She t rave l led extensive ly f rom Alaska to C h i n a , t o t h e G a l a p a g o s a n d t h e Amazon, and enjoyed a host of other in te res ts rang ing f rom b i rd ing and swimming to Tai-Chi. Maureen will be deep ly missed and remembered for her compassion, energy, dedicat ion, sense of humour and zest for life. She i s p r e d e c e a s e d b y h e r f a t h e r J i m D o w n e y a n d h e r m o t h e r N o r a Downey. Maureen is survived by her husband Ma lco lm, her sons Adr ian and Ph i l (K im) and g randdaugh te r Taylor. Visitation will be held on Friday November 12th from 7pm to 9pm at Kop r i va Tay lo r Commun i t y Fune ra l Home, 64 Lakeshore Road, (one block east of Kerr, 905-844-2600),Oakvi l le.
