ANDERSON Joseph "Joe" Born in Wick, Scot land on February 4, 1912, Joseph "Joe" Anderson passed away on December 23, 2010 in Rubidge Retirement Residence in Peterborough, Ontario where he and Gertrude, his dear wife of over 74 years, had lived since July 2010. Joseph immigrated to Canada with his family before he was one year old, and except for a short time in Oshawa, lived in Oakville all his life, until he and Gertrude moved to the ret irement residence. Joseph attended Brantwood Elementary School and Oakvi l le High School, fol lowing which he entered the automotive business with Whittaker's Motors and later Hitchcox Motors where he became sa l es manager. In the 1950 's Joe jo ined London L i f e Insurance Company dur ing wh ich t ime he ob ta ined h i s Char t e red L i f e Under wr i t e r des ignat ion and became a successfu l insurance agent unt i l h is ret i rement . During retirement, Joe pursued his love of sailing on his 25' C&C sailboat and was a regular at Oakvi l le Harbour where he served as Harbour Master in the 1970's. Never one to be idle, Joe became Chief Returning Officer for at least 2 Federal E lect ions; provided services to var ious car dealerships in the area; served on the Oakville Harbour Committee and was an active, long time member of St. Jude's Anglican Church. Joe was a proud member of the Oakville Masonic Lodge #400 for 66 years, serving as Worshipful Master and Very Worshipful Grand S teward . He was made an Honorar y Member in 2002 . Joseph was predeceased by his father, former Oakvi l le Mayor Wil l iam Anderson, mother Johann, his sister Margaret, and brothers Frank and Wil l iam. Joseph wil l be greatly missed by his dear wife Gertrude, and their 5 children: Leigh (Christine), Gaye (Al), James (Penny), Donald (Jane) and Connie (Andre), as well as many grandchi ldren and great grandchi ldren. Joseph loved fami ly gather ings and visiting with friends. He was an inspiration to his family with his energy, curiosity, enthusiasm, posit ive att i tude, and to the end, a keen sense of humour, al l of which represent his legacy to his loved ones. A memorial service will be held at St. Jude's Anglican Parish, 160 William St., Oakville on Saturday, January 8th, 2011 at 2:00pm followed by a reception in the church hall
