The Bracebridge Ontario Provincial Police detachment took Todd Andrew Howley, 49, of Oakville, into custody, Thursday, after he was finally extradited from the United States. Howley was arrested in Georgia for the murder of Paul Maasland, 55, of Toronto on May 10. Maasland was found dead on Aug. 30, 2010 at a public boat launch on Morrow Drive in Bracebridge. Documents filed in U.S. District Court indicate that Maasland died of extensive blunt force injuries that caused multiple skull fractures and 12 broken ribs. Maasland and Howley were engaged in a business partner- ship to build bioreactors, but the same court documents indicate Howley owed Maasland roughly $100,000 at the time of Maaslands death. Howley left Canada for the United States just days after police interviewed him about the murder. He subsequently sold his home in Oakville. A warrant for his arrest was issued in an Ontario courtroom on April 21. Howley was arrested with- out incident by an FBI task force at a hotel in Dalton, Georgia on May 10.
