Having the chance to play against opponents their own age has made a difference this year for the Oakville Whitecaps Big League All-Stars. The Whitecaps, who competed against older age groups in previous seasons, have found that instead of occasionally getting out of round-robin play, they are winning tournaments. After failing to advance past the first round in its first tournament of the year, Oakville reached the finals of a competition in Dundas before beating out several AA-calibre squads to win a pair of tournaments in Mississauga. This is the last year of Little League for many play- ers on the team, all but two of whom are 17 or 18 years old. This is the first season that Oakville Little League has fielded a Big League team. A total united effort of team defence, pitching and offensive attack is why this team is doing as well as it is, said Whitecaps coach Nick Rigato. The dis- cipline they show on the field is remarkable, espe- cially considering that these players came together thinking this would be their last hurrah regarding baseball. Members of the team are Alastair Iten-McGrath, Alex Therrien, Mike Lunder, Mike Dimitroff, Stephen McPhaden, Matt Lunder, Dennis Mcleod, Pete Giglio, Ben Lozier, Anthony f Rigato and Mike Hodgson.
