It is with great pride we announce that the 2nd Annual Ovarian Cancer Mini Walk of Hope Burlington/Oakville was an incredible success this past Sunday, September 11th. This year marked the 10th anniversary of the walk, founded by Peggy Truscott in 2002. The walk has grown to include 15 National Walk locations and 35 Mini Walk locations, in which Burlington/Oakville celebrated our 2nd annual Mini Walk and definitely our most successful! Chair/founder, Cynthia Bradburn and local presenting sponsors The Rocca Sisters Team, partnered up and made this years walk the most successful yet. We had over 500 people in attendance and raised $100,000. It was a proud day for Cynthia, a survivor herself and for Cathy and Tanya, who lost their Mom to Ovarian Cancer in May 2009. This walk signifies hope for many with loved ones who may have lost their battle, as we continue to fight to win this war together! Together we strive for early detection. Currently there is no early detection screening for Ovarian Cancer. 70% of women do not survive longer than 5yrs as their diagnosis comes too late (our mom was one of them). With early detection survival rates could increase dramatically to 90%. We want to thank all our clients, family and friends who came out to support our event, and those who couldnt make it but gave so generously to the cause. We want to honour our 1st and 2nd place fundraiser winners. 1st place, raising $1,195 was Lisa Rodwin and 2nd place raising over $825 was Ashween Singh. A heartfelt thank you to these women for their hardwork and determination for a cause so near and dear to our hearts.
