He said the Liberal Party of Ontario is committed to the new Oakville hospital, to expanding Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital, to tripling the size of the Milton District Hospital and supporting Georgetown Hospital's expansion. We are bringing health- care closer to home because this growing community needs it and our aging population absolutely requires it. This is what is at stake in this elec- tion, said McGuinty. McGuinty also took a moment to promote Oakville MPP Kevin Flynn, who he said worked tirelessly to get fund- ing for the new hospital, and Halton Liberal candidate Indira Naidoo-Harris who, he said, has spent a career as a broad- cast journalist listening to peoples concerns and telling their stories, something, which he said, would translate well to Queens Park. The groundbreaking pre- sentation continued with a vir- tual tour of the new hospital so real it gave the premier pause. Those present also heard from Oakville Mayor Rob Burton, who said the new hos- pital would be the most won- derful medical facility imagina- tion could bring to life. The new hospital will feature 80 per cent single-patient rooms to reduce the risk of infection and enhance patient privacy and comfort; expanded capacity in all areas including a larger diagnostic imaging department with more CT Scanners and MRIs; a new cancer clinic to provide patient assessment, counselling and chemotherapy administration; a healing envi- ronment focused on patient- and family-centered care, ame- nities to support family involve- ment; and space for expansion to accommodate growth, medi- cal advancements, and educa- tion and training space to ensure leading-edge care is available in Oakville today, tomorrow and the future. Halton Healthcare President John Oliver said the hospital represents a $2.7 billion proj- ect, a total, which includes 30 years of maintenance costs. fOliver said development o the site is proceeding on sched- fule and expects construction o the actual hospital structures to begin in about a month. fSubstantial completion o the hospital is expected in April or May of 2015 with care being provided to patients by December 2015.
