Blades earn win, OT loss vs. upstart IceHawks The Ontario Junior Hockey League standings suggest the Oakville Blades should be most concerned this season by the Buffalo Jr. Sabres and Georgetown Raiders. The Blades, however, might need to add the Milton IceHawks to that mix. Though Oakville earned three of a possible four points in two games against the IceHawks last weekend, Milton managed to hand the Blades just their sixth loss in 22 games. The IceHawks defeated the Blades 4-3 in a shootout Sunday in Milton to earn their 11th point in their last 14 contests -- a surprising surge by a fifthplace squad with a 9-13-2 overall record. Oakville did, however, outclass the IceHawks 6-0 Friday at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex, outshooting Milton 44-24 on the night. That contest was punctuated by two fights late in the third period. Brad Kobryn -- one of those late-game combatants -- sparked the Blades earlier with a natural hat trick. Kyle Blaney, Braedan Russell and Brandon Denham also scored for Oakville, while Russell added three assists and James Prigione recorded the shutout. Sunday, the Blades got a shorthanded marker from Russell and third-period goals by Patrick Arnold and Todd Bannerman. Milton, however, converted two of f its three attempts in the shootout while the Blades were held scoreless in their two attempts. Michael Stiliadis made 24 saves to help Oakville earn the single point for the shootout loss. The Blades will be home to the Hamilton Red Wings Friday, a 7:30 p.m. start at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex, and then visit the Orangeville Flyers Saturday. ALUMINUM E.K. The Hornets followed up a 4-0 loss to the Bluewater Hawks Friday by blanking the Kitchener-Waterloo Rangers 1-0 Saturday. Both games were played at Joshua's Creek Arenas. Camille Leonard made 30 saves for the Hornets Saturday to record the shutout, while Amanda Pereira's first-period powerplay goal stood up as the winner. Friday, Laura Corcoran stopped 40 of 44 shots in a losing effort for Oakville. The Hornets carried a 4-5 record into last night's (Tuesday's) game at Stoney Creek. Oakville will host the London Devilettes this Saturday at Joshua's Creek Arenas, then travel to Waterloo Sunday for a matinee with the Rangers.
