www.insideHALTON.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, November 30, 2011 · 18 Santa is here... and this year's float winners are in O akville hosted the 2011 Santa Claus Parade on Nov. 19, and what a parade it was. Marching bands, clowns, costumed characters, as well as corporations, community groups and schools, put together some outstanding entries this year that had the audience celebrating All I Want for Christmas, this year's parade theme. A record number of spectators lined the streets of downtown Oakville and Kerr Village. For the second year, a parade highlight was the flyby of seven planes flying in Christmas tree formation high above the parade route. Parade sponsors were invited to participate as judges and had a very difficult time because of the high-quality of the entries. "I am constantly amazed at the time and effort put in to the entries, and this year was no exception," said Pam Damoff, parade chair. "They were simply amazing, and I would not have wanted to try to pick the winners, because they were all outstanding." The 2011 Santa Claus Parade winners are: · Best Overall Entry -- Oakville Academy for the Arts · Best Corporate Float -- Oakville Academy for the Arts Runner Up -- Rosehaven Homes Honourable Mention -- Dr. Agatha Bis · Best Community Float -- 1st Trafalgar Hate your kitchen? The White Oaks Secondary School Marching Band, which made its debut in the 2005 parade, entertained with energetic and enthusiastic support for its school's float entry and was awarded the People's Choice Award for Favourite Band. The Oakville Academy for the Arts participated in the parade for the first time this year and was richly rewarded with Best Overall Float, Best Commercial Float and the People's Choice Award for its music and dance-inspired creation. A monetary prize of $500 is awarded to the Best Overall Float. This award was determined by the highest overall score. Charitable groups and schools keep the prize money; however, noncharitable groups must donate their prize money to the charity of their choice. This year's recipient of the $500 prize, Oakville Academy for the Arts, has chosen Kerr Street Ministries as its charity of choice. This year's Awards Presentation will be held tomorrow (Thursday) at the Operating Engineers Banquet Hall at which time the 2012 parade theme will be chosen. Oakville charities were also big winners this year as residents were extremely generous. The Families and Friends of Falgarwood raised almost $3,300 for Wellspring-Halton. The Kinsmen Club of Oakville collected food and more than $3,000, which will greatly benefit the Salvation Army. The Oakville Professional Firefighters also received a record number of toys for their Toy Drive. Oakville residents showed once again the real spirit of the season is in sharing with others. -- Submitted by the Oakville Santa Claus Parade Committee SALE SALE SAVE UP TO Remodeling Options: Renew your cabinets with our unique "Tu T ne-Up" Restores the original wo w od finis i h to 90-95% (s ( ta t rting at $900) 0 ReDoor (a new Do-It-Yo Y urself makeover solution) New custom made doors r & paint the cabinets t (f (from $1500**) * Reface your cabinets with our unique "Tu T ne-Up" Restores the original wo w od finis i h to 90-95% (s ( ta t rting at $900) 0 Restyle for a new look and improved function Refa f ce & add some new cabinets t (s ( ta t rting about $4900**) * Replace with new custom designed cabinets Get the sty tyle and fu f nction yo y u need fo f r as little as $79 7 00** Save* UP TO UP TO 50 % on select HunterDouglas products Offer expires Dec. 12, 2011 Financing Available OAC 90% 75% 40-60% 20-4 - 0% Within budget *Savings relate to the estimated cost of achieving the same look with comparable new cabinets. **Starting price examples are based on a common 10' x 10', "L" shaped kitchen cabinet layout.
