New Year's baby was expected at Christmas Continued from page 1 3 · Wednesday, January 4, 2012 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com Oakville's first baby of 2012 doing everything expected of him, on his own schedule Oakville, and said they plan on moving back in February. While Samantha said she is happy Charles has been named Oakville's New Year's baby, she said that was not exactly the plan. Charles was actually overdue by one week. "He was due Christmas Day," said Samantha. "But he decided Christmas was not going to happen and he was going to make us all wait. So we didn't get him for Christmas, but we got the New Year with him. He picks his days." Samantha described her baby's birth as `textbook' with everything happening exactly how it was supposed to. The new mom was in labour for a total of 15 hours, however, she said it really didn't get too intense until New Year's Eve at around 3 p.m. Even then, the anesthesiologist's epidural was able to relieve much of the discomfort she was experiencing. The end result was a healthy, happy baby boy named Charles. "He's doing very well," said Samantha. "He's very happy and he loves to eat and sleep and do all the things that babies should be doing. So... so far so good." Samantha said Charles' gender was not a surprise as she and James had decided it would be best to know ahead of time so they could better prepare for their baby's arrival. "This is very exciting," she said. "We didn't expect him to be the New Year's baby, but it all worked out. Labour progressed the way it was supposed to and next thing you knew it was after midnight, we were ready for him and he came out. We really didn't expect it to happen this way, but it did.
