Museum staffer finds 500-lb. statue in his parking space By David Lea OAKVILLE BEAVER STAFF The Halton Regional Police Service is asking for the public's help in identifying the owner of a statue of a Hindu God, which showed up at the Oakville Museum earlier this month. Police said on Tuesday, April 3, at around 8 a.m., an employee of the Oakville Museum, at 8 Navy St., arrived at work to find a marble statue in his parking space. Despite the statue being only three feet in height, it is extremely heavy and is reported to resemble the Hindu God Ganesh. Police arrived on the scene and attempted to move the statue with limited success. The Oakville Roads and Works Department was called and the statue was transported to the Halton Regional Police Service Property Bureau. Police report they are not sure how or why the statue was dropped off at the museum, but note that, as it could be stolen, they are eager to see it returned. "First and foremost, we want to get it back to its rightful owner," said Sgt. Dave Cross, Halton police public affairs officer. "Somebody is obviously missing it and I'm sure it has some faith value or intrinsic value to them." The statue weighs approximately 500 pounds (277 kilograms), is three feet tall and missing its top two arms. Anyone with information regarding the owner of this statue is asked to contact Det.-Sgt. Anthony Odoardi of the Oakville Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825-4747, ext. 2215 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), through the web at www.haltoncrimestoppers.com or by texting `Tip201' with a message to 274637 (crimes). 3 · Wednesday, April 18, 2012 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com Inside Opinion............................................6 Wheels...........................................16 Artscene.........................................21 Sports.............................................24 Classified.......................................28 Full Delivery: Real Estate, Onward Manufacturing, BBQs Galore, 3-for-1 Glasses, Famous Greek Sandwiches, Sheridan College, JYSK, Home Hardware, Rona, Sure Lock Interlocking, National Sports, Shopping News Partial Delivery: Home Depot, IKEA, Sheridan Nurseries, Staples, Sheridan College For home delivery & customer service call 905-845-9742 Mon., Tues. 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Wed., Thu., and Fri. 9 a.m.-7 p.m. (open for calls only after 5 p.m.) Closed Sat. and Sun.
