Thalia Zolis and Erin Murray tried out for the team last month at McMaster University. After reaching the final tryout, both girls were given envelopes that sealed their opportunity in representing Oakville on Team Ontario. Both teens said they are excited at having the chance to inspire other lacrosse players in the province. "I feel honored to be chosen to represent Ontario. I am happy to be having a great summer playing a sport that I love," Murray said. Zolis added that taking part in Oakville lacrosse helped her get to where she is today. "I feel proud to represent Oakville and I think it's great considering it's the third year for the Oakville Lady Hawks Lacrosse," Zolis said. "I hope it will inspire more young girls to play field lacrosse. I'm excited about wearing the Team Ontario uniform; it's a privilege to represent my province and hometown of Oakville." Zolis and Murray are both co- DEFENSE CAMPS SEASON PREP - INTENSE BOOT CAMP AUG 6-10, AUG 13-17, AUG 20-24 captains of the Oakville Lady Hawks U15 rep team and are leading by example on and off the field this season. They have also dedicated a large portion of their time this season putting in extra hours to mentor and coach the Oakville Lady Hawks U11 house league program. Laura McLaughlin, coach of the U15 Lady Hawks, said that she has seen great improvement in both girls since they began playing lacrosse. "As their coach, I am very proud of both Thalia and Erin for this accomplishment. Both have improved immensely since the inception of the Oakville program in 2010, including putting in the extra time in the off-season to develop their skills at lacrosse camps," she said. The girls are currently expected to play in two tournaments, the Launchpad tournament this weekend in Syracuse and the Hershey Laxfest next month in Hershey, Pa. McLaughlin added that hard work has paid off for both girls, which has a lot to do with Oakville lacrosse and their dedication to their players. "This is absolutely an accomplishment for Oakville lacrosse. Given the short existence of the program in Oakville to have a pair of players excel to this level in such a short period of time is really reflective of the hard work of both Thalia and Erin as individuals," she said. "The growth in three short seasons has been incredible and we look forward to more success such as this in the future."
