Summer weather heralds the Designation increases value arrival of the parking brigade Continued from page 6 7 · Wednesday, June 13, 2012 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com I often walk around Bronte and on the way back home one afternoon, I noticed that both the Bronte Athletic field and diamond were in use. As is the norm when both fields are in use, there is insufficient parking and cars tend to park alongside the field on Lakeshore Road. What was not normal is that every one of those cars this afternoon had a parking ticket. I will admit that there are many, far too many actually, `no stopping' signs both sides of Lakeshore Road. Is the Town of Oakville that hard up for extra revenue that it is not going to use a little common sense considering the lack of parking around Bronte's Athletic fields? If the Town's overzealous parking ticket brigade is going to continue doing this there are going to be a great many complaints coming the Town Of Oakville's way in regards to tickets being given when in the past there weren't. I hope that the rest of Oakville's fields are not going to suffer the same overzealousness of the parking ticket brigade this summer. Gordon MacKenzie, Oakville designation felt too intimidated to respond. There has been a campaign to frighten the retailers into believing that their rents will go up as the result of depressed property values and bureaucracy. However, there is much evidence to suggest that other towns' experience with heritage designation is that property values have increased. Further, the Town has taken important steps to avoid any unnecessary delays in approvals for changes. I think designation will help maintain the beautiful and historical character that attracts many to our town. Of particular concern are the proposed changes to Employment Insurance and Canada Old Age Security program. Our most vulnerable citizens are being targeted and harmed by this legislation. In my view, Bill C-38 does not reflect Canadian values. Instead, it is divisive, harmful and will have significant consequences for future generations. Omnibus Bills of this nature and size are undemocratic and a very dangerous way to run a country. No national, provincial or municipal government should rule through massive omnibus bills. I ask you, as my representative in Parliament, to be one of the 13 Hero Conservative MPs needed to make a difference and vote against this bill.
