www.insideHALTON.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Wednesday, June 6, 2012 · 18 Cause for Paws bounds into Appleby June 28 On Thursday, June 28, the 11th annual Cause for Paws event will take over the grounds of Appleby College. Dubbed the party that kicks off summer, Cause for Paws raises money for the homeless and forgotten animals of Oakville and Milton with an evening of entertainment and auctions. Cause for Paws benefits the Oakville & Milton Humane Society (OMHS). The very popular Luxury Vacation Raffle for a once-in-alifetime vacation to Scottsdale, Arizona is back and better than ever. The prize includes two business class airfares and a one week stay at the luxurious Four Seasons Villas in Scottsdale. Tickets for the raffle are $100 and only 300 tickets will be sold. The winner will be drawn at the Cause for Paws event. Surprise local celebrities will be showing their love of animals at the event. Celebrity auctioneer will be fivetime CFL all-Star and former Toronto Argonaut Dan Ferrone. Oakville & Milton Humane Society supporter and CH personality, Annette Hamm will be the celebrity master of ceremonies, joined by CTS personality Erin Alvarez. Live music by The Killin' Time Band will set a summer mood, with violinist extraordinaire Grenville Pinto making a special appearance. The evening begins at 7 p.m and runs to midnight. Tickets cost $25 and are available at the Oakville & Milton Humane Society as well as throughout Oakville. Once inside, guests purchase special `super secret' coloured dog biscuits to use as currency to purchase food and drink from some of Oakville's very best restaurants. After the event the dog biscuits brighten the days of the homeless dogs and puppies at the Oakville & Milton Humane Society. "We are so grateful to the Cause for Paws Committee for all they do," said Brenda Dushko, spokesperson for the Oakville & Milton Humane Society. "Their commitment and dedication to our `cause' has changed the lives of so many animals in need. "It's one of the most fun ways I can think of for folks to help us help the animals." Visit www.causeforpawsoakville. com for more information. All funds raised at the Cause for Paws event will help the Oakville & Milton Humane Society `speak for those who cannot speak for themselves'. The Cause for Paws event began more than a decade ago as a tag sale to raise funds for the Oakville & Milton Humane Society, held by the R-Dog Post Park Leash Free Committee. It had advocated for and received permission for an off-leash park at Post Park on the condition that they made a donation to the shelter. Each year, the event grew, eventually outgrowing Oakville resident Beverlie Rockliffe's home and moving to the grounds of Appleby College. Last year, Cause for Paws raised more than $105,000 for the homeless and forgotten, neglected and abused animals of Oakville and Milton. This year's goal is $120,000.
