The Region's objective is to create an Active Transportation Master Plan that is safe, affordable and sustainable. Active Transportation is any form of human-powered transportation, which includes walking, cycling, roller-blading and movements with mobility devices. An Active Transportation network includes sidewalks, multi-use paths, crosswalks, on-road and off-road cycling facilities, as well as recreational trails. Process This notice signals the commencement of the Active Transportation Master Plan ­ a study optimum active transportation system to the year 2031. A key outcome of the study will be a list of active transportation projects that the Region can incorporate in its 20-year Roads Capital Program. "When I came outside of my classroom there was a good 100 people outside at the front with police cruisers, fire, ambulance. It was a big deal," said student Chantz O'Donnell, who said he is acquainted with both youths involved. He said the two of them were good friends. Chantz's brother, Mack O'Donnell, who says he, too, is friends with both the students involved, was on his way to the high school's office to pick up something when he spotted a youth running into the office. "There was blood all over his hand, he was bleeding," Mack said. Halton Regional Police Service say the victim was slashed on his side and needed stitches. The altercation allegedly started during the lunch period. The youth who was injured in the altercation, students say, came up to the other who was speaking on his cell phone. The youth appeared upset that the other was apparently bad-mouthing him, the students say. When the cellphone was taken and thrown, one youth spit at the other. Punches were then thrown and a knife was allegedly pulled. A group of students at the scene shortly afterward alleged that while the youths were being broken apart, one of the youths was cut on his side. Another student also received minor injuries trying to break up the fight, but didn't require hospital treatment. During the altercation, a crowd of students gathered and the O'Donnells reported the injured youth had many friends at the school. The arrival of the school's liaison police officer served to end the altercation before it could escalate. Emergency response to the scene was swift and substantial. One student said he counted as many as 12 marked police cruisers and five unmarked police cars, a fire truck and an ambulance on the scene at one point. The student who was cut was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The parents of the injured students were immediately notified by police. A suspect was taken into custody and the investigation is ongoing. No charges had been laid as of press deadlines. This injury did not require hospitalization. Police were called to the 1330 Montclair Dr. school at 12:25 p.m. after receiving reports of the fight.
