The Oakville Fire Department was called to the barn at around 10 p.m., after a nearby resident called 911 reporting what they initially thought to be a grass fire. The firefighters discovered it was a barn that was ablaze. The flames were visible from Dundas Street despite the building being some 500 metres from the roadway. Firefighters eventually extinguished the blaze, but not before the majority of the barn collapsed. No one was injured in the fire as the barn, which is owned by Bronte Creek Provincial Park, was unoccupied. While the cause of the fire is unknown at this time, the fact the barn had no gas, electricity or water service has officials wondering. "These things don't just start themselves," said Oakville Deputy Fire Chief Brian Durdin. "At this time the cause is undetermined, but we are investigating." A damage estimate was unavailable.
