The team posted two wins and a draw in round-robin play, posted a 1-0 victory in the semis and then blanked Ganaraska United 3-0 in the championship game. Mohammed Sheik, Aryan Ghahremanzadeh and Michael Ferrari scored for Oakville in the final. Cedric Sobotta provided the winner in the semis. Other members of the Oakville squad are Jonathan Rego, Elton Thompson, Sachin Maharaj, David MacKenzie, Hunter Gutman, Tanner Davies, Sergio Rebelo, Craig Mackie, Luke De Rango, Luke Carenza, Mark Coulter, Owen Huntington, Luka Milic and Stephen Perks. Local ballplayers contribute to provincial team win A trio of Oakville players played a major role in Team Ontario's championship win at the recent Canada Cup baseball tournament in London. Oakville A's pitcher Blake Weston earned the save in Ontario's 9-8 win over British Columbia in the final. Weston recorded four outs -- three via strikeout -- and allowed no hits to nail down the victory. Nathan Halliday of the Oakville Royals Baseball Club started the final, yielding three runs in two innings. Halliday allowed five hits and struck out three. Fellow Oakville A's player Danny Beaver contributed throughout the tournament, impressing with some wellplaced bunts and solid defensive work in the outfield. Oakville native to coach Massachusetts school team Oakville native T. J. Manastersky is the new men's hockey head coach at Curry College, an independent liberal arts college in Massachusetts. Manastersky's hiring was announced by the school earlier this week. "I am excited to join the Curry College family and to begin working with my new players," said Manastersky. "I will take great pride in leading the program and look forward to establishing an environment conducive to athletic, academic and social growth and integrity." Manastersky joined Curry after a successful four-year stint as an assistant coach at Fredonia State, where he was responsible for recruiting efforts, strength and conditioning, power play, video analysis and coaching the defence for the Blue Devils. Prior to his time at Fredonia, Manastersky worked with the Division 1 Canisius College Golden Griffins of the Atlantic Hockey Association. He has also spent time as an assistant coach with Team Western in the Empire State Games and was a guest coach and evaluator at the USA Hockey Selection Camp in the MidAm District and at the Greater Toronto Hockey League's under-17 camp. Manastersky played collegiately for the Oswego Lakers from 2004-06 and was a member of the SUNYAC all-academic team. He helped the Lakers earn as high as a No. 3 national ranking. a recent three-game exhibition series. Defenceman Sarah Steele and forwards Kristyn Capizzano and Sydney McKibbon suited up for Canada in the series, which was played in Minnesota. Canada won the third and deciding game 5-4 in a shootout after the teams split the first two contests. Steele and Capizzano are both students at Appleby College. McKibbon and Capizzano are Oakville natives. Brianne Jenner, Hayleigh Cudmore, Jillian Saulnier and the Canadian U22 team weren't quite so fortunate in their series against the U.S. Canada lost all three games in Calgary, falling by scores of 4-1, 4-2 and 4-3. Both the Canadian U18 and U22 teams will play in international tournaments in January. Former Hornets to play university hockey Several former members of the Oakville intermediate AA Hornets are preparing for their first season of women's university hockey. Melanie Moylan, Oakville's captain last year, will attend Ohio State University. Andrea Zeismann and Caitlyn Gilligan, both alternate captains last season, are headed to State University of New York, and Emily O'Neil will play at the University of British Columbia. Oakville trio helps Canada U18 women down U.S. Three Oakville players helped the Canadian under-18 women's hockey team to a 2-1 win over the United States in Major midget COBA champs Major mosquito A's also off to provincials The Oakville A's major mosquito AA team will represent the Central Ontario Baseball Association (COBA) this weekend at the Ontario Baseball Association (OBA) provincial championships in Niagara Falls. Oakville earned the right to represent COBA by defeating Burlington 8-7 in the association's Tier 2 final earlier this month. Ross Peaker's double gave the A's the lead late in the game and Chris Vernon earned the save. Riley Keenan, Cameron Berczi and Graydon Stauffer also pitched for Oakville in the win, which saw nearly every player contribute in some fashion. Other members of the team are Ethan MacDonald, Joshua Wood, Joe Kruse, Zach Marriott, Justin Kurc and Ryan Matsuba.
