But like most things in the media these days, I believe it has been manipulated so that the public can feel at rest and ask no further questions. Today, as per legislation, we are not allowed to capture wild dolphins or marine mammals in Canada or the U.S. But conveniently there is a loophole, which allows us to import them from far overseas, mainly from Russia, Cuba, Japan, etc. Today, there is a strong drive fueled by compassionate people to make changes. (Earlier this month) was the biggest protest Marineland had ever seen in 30 years. All of us who attended the demonstration believe change will finally come. Though our ideas of what the end result should look like may be different, hopefully a significant step in the right direction will be made this time. But people must not give up or forget and we must do our part to get involved. Our busy lives allow us to easily get distracted and put things on the back burner, but we need to stand beside what we believe in. The aim of the protest was to get more of the public involved and knowledgeable about what is going on, so that people can be more informed and make better choices. I was there, and though most people went on through the entrance without hesitation, some hesitated; others came and asked questions, some turned around and went back to their cars, a whole busload of tourists got back on their bus and left, and a family of 10 came and joined the demonstration. Each person can make a huge difference, don't underestimate yourself. I made a Facebook event for 100 of my friends letting them know about the closing protest on Sunday, Oct. 7, in which animal advocate Ric O'Barry, from the award-winning documentary The Cove, will be attending. From 100 friends I invited, friends of my friends invited 200 more. We are all there for the same reason, because we care about the animals. We are there in unity showing support to the animals and to each other. If you have any compassion for animals there is something you can do to help.
