Each lists a series of goals and a deadline for achievement. For example, under `organization,' the Bronte BIA is advised to form strategic partnerships to accomplish its goals. This could include working with the Town of Oakville and Burlington BIAs to create a bus package to promote shopping in Bronte or creating packages with local hotels, Bronte Creek Provincial Park or other attractions to enhance tourism. The plan recommends these partnerships be achieved in the next 18-24 months. Under the marketing and events pillar, the plan suggests businesses in Bronte to do things like extend their hours of operation (earlier in the morning and later in the evening), use database marketing from a list of special event attendees and highlight the fact that shopping locally can make life simpler. The plan was developed by the Town's Economic Development Department, which drew on stakeholder feedback, extensive background information and advice from a panel of experts in retail success and redevelopment in urban lakeside communities. The plan has been in the works since the fall of last year. regional press coverage, taking professional images of Bronte and developing postcards to distribute throughout Bronte and the western GTA. The plan recommends all these marketing changes be undertaken in the next 18-24 months. Design improvements suggested by the plan include increasing the number and size of the patios for area restaurants and developing a planting program to increase trees along the Lakeshore Road corridor. Work in the economic development area includes establishing an Economic Development Committee, looking for businesses that appeal to multiple target markets such as restaurants, specialty foods, etc., enhancing the waterfront theme with similarly-themed businesses, posting vacant properties on the BIA website, and possibly restricting professional services from Bronte Road to strengthen the impact of the commercial retail strip. These design and economic development changes are not expected to occur until 2014- 2016. Town staff said the Bronte BIA would be the lead organization responsible for the implementation of the Bronte Business Action Plan, with assistance from its subcommittees, stakeholders and Town staff. Ward 1 Town Councillor Ralph Robinson warned, Monday, the plan would fail unless the Bronte BIA gets behind it. There is no shortage of reasons for the introduction of the plan with Town staff stating in their report the business conditions in the Bronte area are an ongoing concern.
