www.insideHALTON.com · OAKVILLE BEAVER Thursday, September 13, 2012 · 24 Seven local agencies receive Trillium cash Seven Oakville-based community groups are among 35 non-profit organizations across Ontario to have received grants from the Ontario Trillium Foundation (OTF). "Volunteers and not-forprofit organizations work hard to meet the changing needs of the population they serve. Thanks to OTF funding, they can strengthen the fabric of their communities and make a much greater impact," said Gayle Wadden, chair of the Halton-Peel Grant Review Team for OTF. The local organizations that have received OTF grants follow: · 1188 Lorne Scots Royal Canadian Army Cadets Corps -- received $49,500 to enhance the Oakville Cadet program by purchasing musical instruments for a brass and reed marching band · ArtHouse for Children and Youth -- the charity is the lead organization on a collaborative $135,000 to help deliver the free Junior Chef Cooking Program in high-need areas in Oakville and Burlington. The initiative promotes health and well-being in children through healthy, multicultural cooking, physical activity and community partnerships · Halton Family Services -- received $23,800 for an organizational review and planning process to develop a strategic plan. The organization provides counselling to more than 2,500 individuals, couples and families every year · Home Suite Hope Shared Living Corp. -- received $59,000 to purchase computer software to support the agency's fundraising, volunteer co-ordination and case-management activities, as well as support volunteer and staff training · Kerr Street Community Services -- received $86,700 to hire a volunteer co-ordina- tor to organize the large number of volunteers who help support the delivery of a range of social services, and recreational and arts programs for children, youth, adults and seniors in Oakville · Oak Park Neighbourhood Centre -- the group is the lead organization on a collaborative $104,800 to renovate a former north Oakville sales centre and convert it into a multi-use neighbourhood centre that will house programs for several non-profit organizations serving families and youths · Oakville Family YMCA -- received $225,000 to hire a community outreach co-ordinator to help implement the Priority Neighbourhoods Project, which will provide free, safe and accessible recreation programs for children, teens and young adults in lowincome and under-served areas in Oakville.
