Councillors will get on dunk tank -- for the dogs Continued from page 7 11 · Thursday, September 27, 2012 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com firefighters, a fire truck to explore, Ask the Vet and Ask the Trainer sessions, doggie massage, canine first-aid demos, free nail trims, and a raffle, as well as sales of art and potted mums. This year, the fundraiser will also feature a dunk tank with councillors Max Khan and Pam Damoff braving the hot seat to get dunked for dogs. "I think the biggest part of our day is, of course, our awesome dogs, who are so deserving of new loving homes," said Zindarec. "We are so lucky to have such wonderful supporters and we hope that everyone will come out with their own dogs, or just to hang out with ours, and join us for a fun day at the park." Currently, Dog Rescuers Inc., located at 115 George St., has 27 canines up for adoption -- the organization places about 120 dogs in new forever homes every year. There are several reasons as to why Dog Rescuers Inc. ends up with the dogs that it does, noted Zindarec. That can range from abandonment and abuse to changes in the lives of the pet's owners. The organization accepts dogs directly from their current families as owner surrenders. In addition, its long-standing relationships with many of the humane societies and animal controls throughout Ontario helps relieve overcrowding or situations where there is a lack of resources. All canines that come into the Dog Rescuers' care are given behavioural and medical assessments, and receive necessary veterinary care, which can range from annual care to costly surgeries -- all of the dogs are also vaccinated, de-wormed, microchipped and spayed or neutered while in the organization's program. The cost of the medical care and basic supplies is funded by adoption fees, as well as donations made to the organization. For more information, visit www. thedogrescuersinc.ca.
