Ivy James nominated for Take a picture for photo contest Toronto indie music award Oakville singer-songwriter Ivy James has been nominated for a Best Young Songwriter award at this year's Toronto Independent Music Awards. The awards will be handed out at Toronto's Phoenix Concert Theatre on Sunday, Oct. 6. The nomination follows a series of summer performances by James in support of her self-titled debut EP. Most recently, the 16-year-old was among more than 100 artists performing at 10 venues at this year's KOI Music Festival in Kitchener, Ont., which took place two weeks ago. KOI is one of Ontario's premiere independent music festivals, and this year included performances by such big name acts as Silverstein, GOB and illScarlet. The contest is back and features six new categories. The deadline for submissions is Thursday, Oct. 11. "The competition is open to photographers of all skill levels from beginner to pro in all categories," said Kieley Hickey, cofounder of the Oakville Camera Club, which puts on the annual contest. The categories for this year are Luminous, Motion and Reflection. These can be taken anywhere in the world. The contest is juried by professionals and is open to everyone. The categories change each year, with three of them required to be taken in town. Photo submissions must be printed on 11 by 14 inch high quality photo paper.
