Only Edie Baxter of Halifax beat Martens, finishing 42 seconds ahead of her to take the women's title. Overall, Martens finished 14th. Her time qualified her for next year's Boston Marathon. The Buffalo Jr. Sabres scored two late goals to force overtime, then prevailed in a shootout to snap the Oakville Blades' threegame winning streak Tuesday in Ontario Junior Hockey League play. Oakville led the contest 3-1 with less than four minutes remaining in regulation time, but the Jr. Sabres pulled within one with 3:13 to go and then notched the equalizer with 30 seconds left and their goalie pulled for an extra attacker. Following a scoreless overtime session, Buffalo outscored the Blades 2-1 in the shootout. Nathan Renouf had two goals to lead the Oakville attack, with Jonah Renouf assisting on both. Len Fabbri had the Blades' other marker. Jonah Renouf scored in the shootout, but Nathan Renouf and Kris Bennett were turned away. Evan Buitenhuis made 32 saves in a losing cause. The point for the shootout loss extended the Blades' lead atop the South Division to three points over the St. Michael's Buzzers. Oakville (9-2-2) will return to action Friday with a home game against the Orangeville Flyers. Game time at Sixteen Mile Sports Complex is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Van Koeverden re-elected to athlete commission Loyola grad Adam van Koeverden has been reelected to the Canadian Olympic Committee's athlete's commission. The commission represents athletes to ensure they have input when the COC is making policy and program decisions. It is comprised of six summer and six winter athletes. Van Koeverden, a four-time Olympic medallist, and rower Andreanne Morin are returning members of the commission. They'll be joined by four new summer athletes: sprinter Oluseyi Smith, soccer goalie Erin McLeod, swimmer Mike Brown and high jumper Nicole Forrester.
