For more than 30 years, Oakville Galleries has operated out of two locations: Oakville Galleries in Gairloch Gardens, a 1922 lakefront estate in southeast Oakville, adapted into an art gallery in 1974; and Oakville Galleries at Centennial Square, a white cube gallery space at the Central Branch of the Oakville Public Library, built in 1967. "Although they have served us very well over the years, the Galleries has long outgrown its current facilities," said Matthew Hyland, director of Oakville Galleries, in a release announcing the news. Oakville Galleries has retained a Galleries shops for new home consortium of consultants including Consulting Matrix, Ginder Consulting, and Solutions, Philanthropy ImageScript Communications and Marketing to lead the study. "We look forward to speaking with Oakvillians over the coming months about what they imagine for Oakville Galleries and how a new home for the organization can contribute to the cultural fabric of Oakville and the vitality of this community," said Hyland. The board and staff of Oakville Galleries have been working closely with the Town of Oakville over the past year to explore the Galleries' potential relocation, ideally to a site in downtown Oakville. It is anticipated that a move is at least two to three years away. Oakville Galleries currently presents eight to 10 exhibitions per year, alongside dozens of programs for children, youths and adults.
