"Over the past 25 years, the community of Oakville has contributed to Mye's ongoing growth and success through its patronage," said Aoki, Mye owner and executive chef. "This is just a small thing to do to repay the community and the hospital that has been so good to me and my family." Involved in the restaurant business for most of his life in Tokyo, Japan, Aoki credits the move to Oakville after a visit by the town's former mayor Harry Barrett. Barrett was visiting Oakville's sister city Neyagawa (near Tokyo) when he met Aoki and encouraged him to move to Oakville and start up a Japanese restaurant business here. After a visit here in the 1980s, Aoki says he and his family instantly fell in love with the town and moved to the community in 1986. "We love this town so much," Aoki said. "We've been supported so much by the people here, we want to give back." Mye is hosting a month-long silent auction in October to help meet the Twenty-five years ago, Motoaki "Mo" Aoki marked two major events in his life -- the birth of his youngest child at Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital and the opening of his Japanese restaurant, Mye.
