Demonstrations by students also occurred at Oakville Trafalgar High School, White Oaks Secondary School and Thomas. A. Blakelock on Monday, however Abbey Park students were careful not to support either the government or teachers, but rather lament the loss of extracurricular activities. The students, like their counterparts across Ontario, have lost a variety of extracurriculars -- from after-school academic help and clubs to sports -- when the Ontario Secondary School Teachers' Federation (OSSTF) cut all such activities last week in protest of the Province's Bill 115 (Putting Students First Act). The bill freezes teachers' pay, cuts into their benefits and removes their local bargaining rights. Secondary school teachers are already in a legal strike position.
