Helliwell donates to hospital The Paul B. Helliwell Foundation is donating $500,000 to the new Oakville hospital. The donation is also being doubled thanks to the 100 per cent match from private family foundation, Amarna. "We are delighted to make this gift to help equip the new Oakville hospital and improve patient care in the community," said John Jenah, president of the Paul B. Helliwell Foundation. The gift and matching funds will be used to equip the rapid diagnostic lab at the new hospital. In recognition of the gift, the new hospital's microbiology lab will be named for Paul Helliwell. Helliwell was the chair of Gamma Foundries Limited in Richmond Hill, Cousins Currie Limited in Woodbridge, along with Reid Milling Limited, Power Lite Development and Scancraft Limited. The rapid diagnostic lab is one of five laboratories that will be housed at the new hospital and will provide regionalized services to the three sites -- Oakville, Milton and Georgetown hospitals under Halton Healthcare Services (HHS). The rapid diagnostic lab currently processes more than 315,500 test results annually, a number that is anticipated to grow to close to 600,000 by 2015, more than 800,000 by 2019 and more than one million by 2024. The Oakville Hospital Foundation is fundraising to reach a goal of $60 million to equip the new Oakville hospital, which is scheduled to open in December 2015. 19 · Thursday, December 13, 2012 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com
