Atom red Avs claim gold in Cleveland Adam Green's third goal of the game and seventh of the tournament gave the Oakville atom red Avalanche a 4-3 overtime win over a Pittsburgh opponent in the final of the Rock and Roll Cup hockey tournament recently in Cleveland. Green, who had 15 points in the tournament, won the puck on a faceoff in Pittsburgh's end and fired a shot into the top corner of the net. Valeriy Fesenko also scored in the championship game for Oakville, while Iain Dell played a strong game in goal. Previously in the tournament, the Avalanche went 1-1-1 in roundrobin play, then won its semifinal contest 8-2. Silver at sledge hockey worlds for Westlake, Canada Canada settled for the silver medal at the World Sledge Hockey Challenge in Calgary after being edged 1-0 Saturday by the United States. Oakville's Greg Westlake, Canada's captain, finished the tournament with three goals and seven assists in five games. Westlake had one of Canada's best chances to score in the championship game on a third-period breakaway. American goalie Steve Cash got a piece of Westlake's shot but as the puck trickled toward the goal line, Declan Farmer of the U.S. got back to clear it before it crossed the line. Canada was undefeated heading into the final, including a 2-1 victory over the U.S. in round-robin play. Despite the loss, Westlake said the team will be working hard to reverse the result at the world championships in Goyang, Korea in April. "The fact is we have the world championships at the end of this (season) so we have to work to get better and we have to win that world championship," Westlake said in his Hockey Canada video blog. "That's our end goal this year; that's always been the end goal. Obviously, we would have liked to have this milestone along the way, but we're going to go get that world championship this year." As for golf, she said she'll take some time away from the game for now, but will continue to play in pro-ams and in charity events to help support the many friends she's made on tour. It's those relationships she is going to miss the most. "I've made so many great friends -- Sean Foley, Sandra Post, Marlene Streit. I've met some of the legends of women's golf and have so many solid friendships that will still be there now that I'm finished playing," Shepley said.
