Woman upset at finding cats left in the cold Continued from page 1 3 · Friday, January 18, 2013 OAKVILLE BEAVER · www.insideHALTON.com Koreska called her husband, who in turn, called the Oakville & Milton Humane Society and provided them with her location. Within a few minutes Koreska said a humane society employee was on the scene and gently collected the cat. Koreska said the employee informed her that the cat was behaving normally, stating when a Persian cat is lost outside and cold, it becomes immobile and will basically wait until it is rescued or starves to death. With the cat taken to the humane society, Koreska thought the cat's owner would be located and the ordeal would be over, however, when she walked through the same area the following day at about the same time, her dogs discovered a second Persian cat. Despite being thoroughly sniffed by two large dogs, this cat, like the first, did not move causing Koreska to believe it was frozen solid. "I moved the hay grass out of the way and "I moved the hay grass out of the way and it looked at me. I took my sweater off and wrapped it up because it was freezing. When I held it, the poor thing was just shivering and purring at the same time. I felt so awful. Who would do this?" Beth Koreska, Oakville it looked at me. I took my sweater off and wrapped it up because it was freezing," she said. "When I held it, the poor thing was just shivering and purring at the same time. I felt so awful. Who would do this?" Again, Koreska called the humane society and a representative soon arrived to take the cat the Cornwall Road shelter. Koreska said she later learned numerous Partial Delivery: other Persian cats have been abandoned in the same area over the last three years. The Oakville & Milton Humane Society would not confirm any previous cases of abandonment in the area when asked by The Oakville Beaver, but did say it is investigating to determine where the cats, discovered Monday and Tuesday, came from. Humane Society spokesperson Brenda Dushko said both cats are doing well in the care of the shelter. Koreska said she is hopeful that raising awareness of what is happening along the Indian Ridge Trail will bring an end to these sad discoveries she is making, particularly in the winter time when the cats have next to no chance of survival unless discovered quickly. "I think it's so disgusting," said Koreska. "I think it's cruel and inhumane. There are coyotes in that area and these cats are defenceless and can't move, plus they are screaming and crying. They're alerting the coyotes exactly to where they are and if they don't get eaten, they'll freeze to death. It's just so awful."
