The group calls the event a training forum for people wishing to expand their acting skills or to learn something new. The One Act Night will actually take place over two nights, on May 24 and 25. The event will feature several oneact plays using basic set and lighting and found costumes and props. The Oakville Players calls this an opportunity for back stage people to try acting, relatively inexperienced actors to try a larger role, and experienced actors to have some fun. Finders Keepers Finders Keepers, a dramatic comedy directed by Bernard Pointet, is about an elderly woman with mental health problems that have led her to become a hoarder, which creates a problem for her daughter. When the woman (Helen) finds a precious violin that belongs to a young professional musician, she is reluctant to return it and the situation gets out of hand. The play is approximately 30 minutes The play requires four characters. They are: Helen, female, who is in her 60s ­ the director will consider anyone over 40; Helen's daughter Rachel, female, aged 20s-30s; Yann, male, 20s-30s; and Officer Rhodes, male, 20s-50s. The Reading The Reading, a dramatic comedy directed by Jennifer Hagglund, is about a young single woman who is looking forward to having her tarot cards read by Donna, but the reading gets interrupted by the ghost of Donna's mother. The play requires two actors, one being in mid 20s to early 30s and another in her late 30s to mid 40s. The play is approximately 10 minutes long. Downtown Downtown is a philosophical romance directed by Derik Hawley and Abbe Osicka. The play asks you to imagine if the existential philosopher Soren Kierkegaard could affect the lives of young lovers. The play is approximately 12 minutes. It requires the actors to interact with musicians, but no singing is required. Four actors are required. One is a male 60 and older, another is a male between 18 and 35, and two females, both between 18 and 35. Actors may be younger if they can appear to fit the age. All roles are non-paying, nonequity. People can audition for more than one play.
