This time, the 22-year-old had to swim his way on to the team. "It's exciting to do it by winning something," he said. "It's special because you have to earn it." Chetrat's week got even better Saturday as he returned from Victoria just in time for the University of Toronto athletics banquet, where he won his second male athlete-of-the-year award. The Varsity Blues' swim captain also won the award in 2011 before taking a year off to train for the Olympics. In the months following the Olympics, Chetrat spoke to swimming clubs about his bid for a spot on the Olympic team, which he initially considered a failure. He said the process was therapeutic in a way, helping him sort through his thoughts and put them together in something he could present. Now he looks forward to going back to those clubs and sharing his experiences again. Over the next three months, as he continues to train for worlds, Chetrat will continue to add to that story.
