Joe was born in Newcastle, Ontario, to William John and Rose (Parker) Hockin on January 24, 1919 and was a veteran of WWII and the Korean War as well a UN Peacekeeper in Gaza in 1962-63. He obtained his engineering degree from University of Toronto in 1950 and remained in the Canadian Army. He loved both of his careers, as an officer in the Royal Canadian Corps of Signals until 1966 and then teaching math at MM Robinson High School, Burlington, until his retirement in 1984. Survived by Margaret (Pearce), his loving wife of almost 71 years, sons Dave (Cathy) of Camlachie, Douglas (Margaret) of Brampton, Jamie (Shirley) of Ottawa and Rob of Komoka, grandchildren Bob, Shelley (Chris), Stephanie (Adam), John (Melanie), Melanie, Paul, Amanda (Mike), Sean (Stacey), Allison, Chris and Troy (Zandra), and 10 great-grandchildren. Brother of Ron Hockin (London) and the late Harold Hockin (Port Perry). During his life, Joe was an active member of St. Paul's United Church, treasurer of Halton District OSSTF, a volunteer for Oakville Fareshare Foodbank, Canadian Red Cross and Sir John Colborne Seniors Centre and an avid bowler and bridge player. Visitation will be held at the Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral Home, 64 Lakeshore Rd. W., Oakville (1 block east of Kerr St., 905-844-2600) on Thursday, April 11, 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral at St. Paul's United Church, 454 Rebecca St, Oakville, on Friday, April 12 at 11am. Reception to follow. Private interment at a later date. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 19 years, Carol Perey. Remembered with love by his children Karen, Kim and Greg and favourite son-in-law Colin Bailey. Stepfather to Andre (Megan) Perey and the late Jacqueline Perey. "Papa" to grandchildren Devon, Simon and Queco, and step Papa to Hannah and Isabelle, Behruze and Sensia. He moved to Oakville with his family in 1972. He had a long career in the Insurance and Reinsurance Industries with Canadian Indemnity and retiring as Senior Vice President of Guy Carpenter & Company. He was an avid golfer and a former longtime member of the Oakville Golf Club. In his retirement he enjoyed many years as a Starter at RattleSnake Point Golf Club. Cremation has taken place. MURDOCH, Etta With love and sadness we announce the passing of a lovely woman and extraordinary mum, wife and friend on Sunday April 7, 2013 in her 78th year after a courageous battle with cancer. Predeceased by her husband Roy Murdoch, former retiree of Ford and her caring mother Robina Anderson, formerly of the Oakville Hospital. Mother of Evelyn, Rona (Ken), Mamie and John. Granny to Daryl, Fraser, Jaclyn, Derek and Luke. An immigrant from Scotland to Oakville in 1963, Mum wanted a better life for her family. Here she remained for 50 years. Mum ran a very successful dressmaking shop in Oakville in the 70's called Etta's Place on Reynolds Street. She was actively involved in the Order of the Eastern Star, a member of Oakville's White Heather Club and a dedicated loving manager and soccer fan.
