The program, known as one of the top summer music programs in the world, is currently accepting full and partial scholarship applications. The deadline is Tuesday, April 30. Guitar Workshop Plus offers two weeklong summer sessions at the Oakville location, running from July 14-19 and July 21-26. The organization offers another weeklong session in Vancouver, B.C. The program is designed for aspiring musicians of all ages, including teenagers, adult hobbyists, students pursuing music careers, and semi-professional and professional musicians. The program employs some of the industries top musicians. Applications for the program are on a first come, first served basis. The organization offers a limited number of scholarships for all instruments. Scholarships are awarded based on musicianship, reference letters and financial need. Sounds of Music with The Entertainers Local barbershoppers The Entertainers are putting on their annual show Saturday (April 27). The show, titled Sounds of Music, will be held in the auditorium of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Secondary School, 124 Dorval Dr. There is an afternoon and evening show. The barbershop chorus is singing under the baton of new director June Dale, who is a four-time world gold medalist with Sweet Adeline choruses. The group will be joined by guest artists the Blazing Fiddles. The quartet features young professional musicians who perform on the piano, violin and bass violin; and they can sing. The group's repertoire includes classical, Broadway, folk, blues, Acadian and bluegrass. The Entertainers are still fresh off their global exposure on YouTube. Several of the group's members were captured on video at an Oakville Tim Hortons after rehearsal. The video was uploaded on the video sharing website and viewed approximately one million times. The VCA Grad Show, featuring the works of graduating students in the Visual and Creative Arts two-year diploma and three-year advanced diploma programs, opens today (Friday). The show will feature 2D and 3D works, drawings, paintings, sculpture, digital work, animation, design, illustration and other forms of media. The art is displayed at The Marquee, in the school's Student Union Centre. Sheridan is located at 1430 Trafalgar Rd. The art is viewable from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. There is also an opening reception Friday evening at 7 p.m. encourage people to buy their tickets in advance this year. Tickets cost $20 for general admission or $15 for students and seniors. Choral Society performs Mozart's Requiem The Oakville Choral Society is ending its concert season with one of the most enigmatic pieces of classical music, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Requiem Mass. The group will perform a pair of concerts at ClearView Christian Reformed Church, 2300 Sheridan Garden Dr., tonight and tomorrow (Friday and Saturday) at 7:30 p.m. The Requiem was composed in 1791 in Vienna, Austria, commissioned by an anonymous nobleman. It was unfinished at the time of Mozart's death. It was completed in 1792 by Mozart's student Franz Xaver Süssmayr, who claimed several of the pieces of the mass as his own. The Requiem is recognized as one of the most dramatic pieces of all time, with music of extraordinary depth and beauty. The Oakville concerts will feature the 75 voices of the choir, along with an orchestra. Featured guest soloists include Julie Ludwig (soprano), Kristin Hoff (mezzo soprano), Charles Sy (tenor) and Jeremy Ludwig (bass). Music director David Bowser will conduct the concert, accompanied by Anne Marie Leonard. Tickets cost $25 in advance or $30 at the door for adults. Boys choir performs A Few Good Men, a boys choir of the Oakville Children's Choir, is performing a family-friendly concert Saturday, April 27.
