Thank you Andrew Brennan Re: We need to step up and get involved, Friday, May 31, 2013, Oakville Beaver Dear Andrew Brennan, I read your letter and have to admit I got emotional. I am the mother of a one year old and a three-and-a-half year old who starts Junior Kindergarten this September. The thing that frightens me the most is my children being bullied. You are right it is, not like when we went to school. Now there is Twitter, Facebook, BBM, texting, etc. I believe schools are making improvements on how to deal with this issue, but it still needs a lot of work and I am sure there are many teachers who feel the way you do. I also hope that when my children enter the school system that they can be so lucky to have a teacher like you. I'm sure at some point everyone has experienced some sort of bullying, I was lucky enough to have been brought up with enough confidence to brush it off and carry on. Maybe a tear here and there, but I went on and survived. We may never be able to completely stop bullying but you're right. We need to step up and speak up especially for those who are too afraid. This may be a stretch, but I would love to see video cameras on all school buses. Thank you for your letter. We do not blame her for the incident; we are beyond disappointed with the lack of care and compassion shown to our children. Thank you to the physician's assistants, doctors and nurses at the emergency department at Oakville Trafalgar Memorial Hospital (OTMH) Friday night for ensuring that only her collarbone was injured. Thank you to the staff at Oakville Cycle on Saturday morning for caring more about our daughter and her injuries and helping her select a new bike that would make her feel comfortable to ride again once her collarbone heals.
