Preparing the Trail has pledged to plant a tree for every runner who participates during a tree planting next fall or spring. Preparing the Trail is a volunteer based group founded in 2009, which currently features more than 50 members. Edwards said the origins of the group date back to just before the Vancouver Olympics when he, and another director, Stu Munro, rode their bikes from Vancouver to Whistler planting trees as they went. The idea was to raise awareness of the environmental impact of the torch ceremony and to do something good for the environment. The pair created a website and gave people the opportunity to adopt each tree they planted with the proceeds going to the Canadian Olympic Foundation. The group gained some recognition and received grants for their work, which allowed them to build a new website and shift their focus to improving local trails and parks. A $20,000 grant given to PTT by the Ontario Trillium Foundation in 2012 has allowed it to Public Meetings On Accessibility Metrolinx, an agency of the Province of Ontario, is helping to transform the way the region moves by championing and delivering mobility solutions for the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA).
