Fed-up Oakville taxpayer... continued Re: Taxpayer is fed up with political antics, Oakville Beaver, June 11, 2013 Sometimes it is better to count to 10 before sending a rant off as a letter to the editor. I was very angry at several members of the Senate, in Ottawa, when I expressed my displeasure at those who work for the government. In my anger, I painted many hard-working and dedicated people with the same brush. For that I am truly sorry. I would like to single out Dave Gittings, Ward 3 Town councillor, who immediately contacted me after my letter was published and offered to sit down with me to answer any questions and address my concerns. I have met Dave on a few occasions and he is truly focused on his community and how he can give back. My husband and I also recently had multiple occasions to be in the Oakville hospital and the staff there were truly amazing. There was not a staff member who did not go out of their way to be nice, kind and helpful. So to all those who I may have insulted, I am truly sorry. None of you deserved such disrespect. Sandra Blane, Oakville Thanks for the great treatment My husband and I were lucky enough to have tickets to attend The Canadian Open and the volunteers made the event a great time. They were always cheery and bent over backwards to make sure we had the assistance we needed and even checked on us throughout the day when they had a few spare moments. As my husband is due to have open-heart surgery in August, this was very much appreciated. The whole event was very well-organized, we were able to take the shuttle from Bronte park, a few minutes down the road from us, so it made for a very enjoyable week. From a couple full of gratitude, Trisha and Alan Smart, Burlington 7 | Friday, August 2, 2013 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com Let soccer be a gentlemen's game continued from p.6 That's the message the Town is sending by making this a league-wide ban. If you want to keep playing, then show some civic responsibility and let it be known that soccer can, and will, be played in Oakville by gentlemen. The power is in the action you take -- use it. Barb Edwards, Oakville Kindness comes in all sizes at rugby club continued from p.6 Along with their coaches, the players secretly contributed money to help buy another bike for their peer. This week at practice, thanks to a little help from the Crusaders Club, the under-18 team presented a gift certificate to their teammate for a new bike from Oakville Cycle and Sports. Many people think of rugby as a tough, gritty sport. Yes, most of these young men are strong and sturdy and yes, they are hard-hitting on the pitch; but kindness comes in all sizes and all places and surely, it exists at the Crusaders Rugby field. Bravo to the Crusaders' under-18 team, for your generosity and your spirit. P .
