Apers and Chris Young will be part of the two teams from The Hill Academy that will be looking to make history in January by breaking the Guinness World Record for the longest lacrosse game. The Vaughan-based prep school is using the record attempt to raise funds for its post-graduate class's trip to Nicaragua, where the students will volunteer for Me To We, a charitable organization that is building schools and supporting education in the Central American country. The current record stands at 24 hours, but the players are looking to make their mark hard to surpass. They plan to play for 30 hours with the game stretched out over three days, beginning at 11 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 9 at the Toronto Rock Athletic Centre in Oakville, continuing all day Friday and wrapping up Saturday, Jan. 11. "I think mentally it will be fatiguing," Apers said. "We're not allowed to leave the bench area and one of the rules is that you have to play an actual game -- keep score, run a shot clock and follow all of the international rules. We're not just going to be fooling around. It's going to be physically tiring." Apers and Young both played Jr. B lacrosse with their hometown Oakville Buzz before moving on to the Jr. A Burlington Chiefs. Young said the longest game he's ever been involved in was an overtime game in field lacrosse. That lasted 90 minutes -- or 1/20th of what they'll be attempting. Admission to the game will be free, but donations will be accepted. The players expect they'll need some fans to cheer them on, especially when they are well into the game, but still quite far from the record.
