Police said an extensive evaluation was done to consider members' opinions, technology, maintenance and cost effectiveness -- as well as officer safety. In conjunction with the phasing in of the new vehicles, police said, new mobile workstations are being integrated into the design. The Panasonic `Toughbook 19 Notebook/ Tablet' will allow officers to access critical information quickly and offer portability. "The police officer of today operates within a modern and technologically-advanced mobile office that used to be known as a police car," said Halton police Chief Steve Tanner. "These new vehicles, complete with advanced mobile workstations, and the best of emergency equipment ensure we not only keep pace with the needs of our officers in the environment in which they work, but that we stay ahead of that curve. We are pleased to provide this high level of equipment to all of our front-line staff in order to maximize efficiency and effectiveness in all we do."
