- Home and School Clubs were a section of the Ontario Educational Association. They were united under the local umbrella of the Halton County Council of Home and School Clubs in 1933-34, and clubs together from all across Ontario formed the Federation of Home and School Councils.
The purposes of the clubs were to improve and enrich student life. For example, the Bronte Club's first initiatives, upon organization in 1919, were to procure a drinking fountain and to install electric lights in the school. Hot lunches at school were introduced, music festivals, choral classes, debating, spelling matches, the school fair was started in 1920, lectures for parents, and of course, fund-raising were projects undertaken by the Home and School Clubs. - Subject(s)
