Online condolences www.glenoaks.ca SHILCOCK, Jean Jean Shilcock (née McClatchey) was born in Stratford, Ontario November 17, 1934 and died in Burlington on February 15, 2014. Jean received her early education in Stratford, Kitchener and Hamilton and graduated from McMaster with a degree in modern languages in 1955. She taught French at Saltfleet High School, Stoney Creek, St. Clair Junior High, Toronto and Oakville-Trafalgar High School. After taking early retirement she worked as a sales associate at Eaton's, Erin Mills, becoming a member of the "Million Dollar Club" in the last year of Eaton's existence. She then worked in a similar capacity at Sears' Sherway Gardens. Jean sang in her husband's choirs at Appleby United, Burlington, St. Paul's United, Dundas, where she served for a number of years as choir librarian, and Knox Presbyterian, Oakville. She was also Treasurer of the Niagara/ Huron Branch of the Royal School of Church Music. Jean enjoyed hiking on the Bruce Trail and also in Algonquin Park. She was an avid traveller visiting almost every country in Eastern and Western Europe and the Middle East at least once (and some of them several times). She is survived by her husband Tom and by several cousins. A special thank you to the staff at Creek Way Village for their loving care. POWER, Jennifer Hamilton passed peacefully on Friday February 14th in Bobcaygeon at the splendid age of 95. Jenny is survived by her loving daughters June Brand (Wayne) of Lindsay, and Michelle Marriott (Arthur) of Clifton Australia, her grandchildren Shelley Brand, Joe Marriott (Anna) of Vancouver, and Jenny Marriott (Australia). She is pre-deceased by her beloved husband John LeaverPower (2001), her only son John Leaver-Power (2005), son-in-law David Brand (1991), and grand-son Liam (1990). Jennifer was a WWII Veteran, serving with the RAF North Weald, in the War Room. Mum and dad emigrated to Montreal from England in 1956 with 3 kids in tow. In 1967 they moved to Oakville where they lived for many years. Mum loved her garden; no matter where we lived, mum's English gardens were a beautiful oasis for all who walked in them. She was painter of water colours, an avid camper, philosopher, and truly cared for those less fortunate. She volunteered her time and gave generously and lovingly to everyone blessed to meet her along their way. She was brave, witty, devoted to her family and to her Lord. She will always remain our hero. Born in Toronto, February 28th, 1922, she was predeceased by John (2004), her husband of 60 years, her parents Parker and Gertrude Blake and her sister Jane Murphy (Martin). Much beloved mother of George of Sudbury, Gai McChesney (Tim) of Oakville, and Cindy of North Vancouver, BC. Adored "Grandy" of Megan O'Toole (Shaun) and Matthew McChesney (Jennifer) of Toronto and "Great Grandy" to Hoxton O'Toole. Also survived by numerous nieces and nephews and brothers-in-law Dick Richmond and Martin Murphy. Barbara was a very generous and giving person, who always saw the best in people and made everyone feel special. She was charming, elegant, fashionable, full of grace, and a hostess extraordinaire. Better known as Mrs. G to hundreds of Glen Bernard Campers, Barb directed Glen Bernard Camp for over 20 years serving as an inspiration and role-model for girls and young women that attended the camp. Throughout her life she was a tireless volunteer for numerous organizations including: Cradleship Creche, Canadian Cancer Society, Wychwood Park Needlework Guild, Grace Church on the Hill, Rotary Inner Wheel, Ontario Camping Association and Hillcrest Public School to name a few. Barb enjoyed bridge, travel, summers on Lake Bernard, Sundridge, her many lunch groups and was an active member of the Granite Club where she enjoyed curling and fitness. Barb lived by the words spoken every morning during flag raising at camp: "....but today well-lived, makes every yesterday a dream of happiness and every tomorrow, a vision of hope." A visitation will be held on Friday, February 28th, 2014 at 1pm, with a memorial service at 2pm and a reception to follow, at Kopriva Taylor Community Funeral home, 64 Lakeshore Road West, Oakville, Ontario L6K 1E1.
