The Oakville Fire Department was called to the residence around 8 p.m. after a neighbour noticed flames inside the home. "When firefighters arrived on the scene they had heavy (smoke) coming from the home and fire venting out of a back basement window," said Oakville Fire Department Deputy Fire Chief Andy Glynn. "They did an interior attack and extinguished the fire, but there was heavy fire damage in the basement and smoke damage throughout the home," said Glynn, explaining firefighters went inside to fight the blaze. No one was home at the time of the fire, however, a dog was found inside and rescued. Glynn said the dog was injured and turned over to the Oakville & Milton Humane Society whose staff took it to a veterinarian for care. Humane Society spokesperson Brenda Dushko said the dog has since been treated and reunited with its owner. Damage to the home has been estimated at approximately $300,000. Glynn said the cause of the fire is being attributed to improper use of a space heater. petite to full figure SIZES 6-24 CUPS B TO H Good Night Good Morning of 100 Bronte Rd, Unit #3, Oakville South Lakeshore Road www.goodnightgoodmorning.ca 905.847.1512
