McLEAN, Maurine (1924 - 2014) Died peacefully at Northridge Long Term Care in Oakville, surrounded by family, on January 28. Maurine was the daughter of Walter (Hutch) and Edith (Dolly) Hutchinson of Winnipeg. Predeceased by husband Jim McLean (1924-1986), she lived an extraordinary life in an extraordinary manner. Mother to five boys; Robert (1943-1944), Terry (Erin), Bruce (Jody), John (Barbara), and Gary (Liz). Doting grandmother to Todd, Greg, Heather, Terry (deceased 2004), Brendon (Laura), Alexandra, Rob (Jerrica) and 4 great-grandchildren. Maurine was an energetic, athletic and outgoing "people person", always seeking connection and looking out for someone she could help. She supported Jim in his rise through the management team of Trans-Canada Airlines (Air Canada) from 1945 to 1973 and his time at Cornell University and Ontario Worldair. The saying "behind every successful man is a woman rolling her eyes" is an apt description of their life partnership. Maurine and Jim developed lifelong friendships throughout the airline industry worldwide, but particularly in the Air Canada family through multiple transfers between Winnipeg and Montreal. Their travels allowed their boys to experience the best education possible - to travel throughout Canada and overseas and experience other languages and cultures. Maurine always put family before self, and expected the same from her boys. She joined teams everywhere she could, from fundraising for the Red Feather, Boy Scouts of Canada, Lakeshore Investment Club, Glenmore Curling Club, Cornell Golf Club, the Oakville Fareshare Food Bank, Air Canada Pionairs and countless other clubs, charities and causes across Canada and Florida. Maurine's powerful moral compass was a gift from her mother. She had no trouble telling the difference between right and wrong, and would never give up opposing wrong until it was defeated. Among her many interests were horseback riding, bowling, bridge, skiing, curling, traveling with close friends and spoiling her grandchildren across the country. The family is grateful for the kind and professional support of the Oakville-Trafalgar Memorial Hospital, The Kensington Retirement Residence, Sunrise of Oakville, Northridge Long Term Care, and particularly Nurse Next Door for their committed service over the past five years, helping Maurine cope with difficult life changes. They added years of quality to Maurine's life. A service of remembrance will be held at Ward Funeral Home, 109 Reynolds Street, Oakville, on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at 1:00 pm with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers please give generously in Maurine's name to the Lions Foundation of Canada Dog Guides or the Hamilton and Halton Alzheimer Society.
