The community theatre group is hosting auditions for the romantic comedy that will be staged at the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts Oct. 2-5. Auditions are on June 17 and June 18 at 7:30 p.m. Call-back auditions are on June 19 at 7:30 p.m. This takes place at the Burl-Oak Theatre Group Studio, 1290 Speers Rd., Unit 12. The group is looking to cast six performers in the lead roles of the play by Robert Sherman and directed by Mike Mitton. Beau Jest delves into the world of dating, marriage and confused identities through the story of Sarah Goldman, a young Jewish girl dating an average nonJewish boy. Sarah ends up hiring Bob, an unemployed actor, to pretend to be her Jewish boyfriend in an attempt to satisfy her parents' expectation of her marrying a wealthy doctor. It has launched J-Bistro Presents, a new series of live music events that will take place once a month during the summer. CONCRETE The series kicked off May 27 and 28 with Oakville musician Jordan John performing to a sold-out crowd each night. The young singer and multi-instrumentalist, who has performed with Prince, Burton Cummings and Jeff Healey, and opened shows for Aretha Franklin, Ray Charles and Robert Cray, captivated the audience with songs off his album New Day. Joining him on stage was Oakville musician Curtis Ray Smith, the visionary behind the new series. Smith, who has been performing regularly at J-Bistro over the last three years, told the Oakville Beaver what a thrill it was for him to see his dream of bringing high-calibre entertainment to downtown Oakville become a reality. Noting J-Bistro owner Jason Alikakos welcomed the idea with open arms when he pitched it, he said J-Bistro is simply the ideal setting for the events he has envisioned, comparing the eatery to a New York piano bar. "With the French doors opening out onto the church and the patio during the summer, it's just a beautiful ambiance in there," he said. The next instalment of J-Bistro Presents is on June 24 at 8 p.m. It will feature renowned jazz saxophonist Larry Bodner, who will also be performing at the Oakville Jazz Festival on Aug. 8 and 9 on Lakeshore Road East from Navy to Allan streets.
