Rescued dogs expected to live Flynn happy with labour post by David Oakville Beaver Staff 5 | Wednesday, June 25, 2014 | OAKVILLE BEAVER | www.insideHALTON.com After two dogs nearly died after being left in a parked car near Marlborough Court Sunday, the Oakville & Milton Humane Society (OMHS) is urging people to leave pets at home on hot days. At 3 p.m., Halton police found two Shih Tzutype dogs in distress inside a vehicle. "They were showing severe signs of heat stress and exhaustion. They were vomiting, there was a lack of responsiveness," said Brenda Dushko, OMHS spokesperson. "They were in bad shape." Dushko said OMHS employees immediately took the animals to a clinic for emergency care. They are expected to make a full recovery. The OMHS is continuing to investigate. Dushko said the woman caring for the dogs attended a festival and said she lost track of time. The vehicle's windows were cracked open, but it was not enough. "When it is hot outside, when it is sunny, even if it doesn't seem that hot, leave your dogs at home," said Dushko. Police reported two other canines rescued from vehicles in town Sunday. Anyone who leaves a pet in a car on a hot day could be charged with causing distress to an animal under the Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act (OSPCA) and face a fine or jail time if found guilty. continued from p.1 Flynn, 59, took over the Minister of Labour position from Yasir Naqvi, who moved to the Community Safety and Correctional Services portfolio. Thunder BayAttikokan MPP Bill Mauro replaced Jeffrey. In the labour portfolio, the veteran Town, Regional and provincial politician is responsible for working to advance safe, fair workplace practices that assist people, businesses and the economy, as well as moving forward with the Fair Minimum Wage Act. In March, the Oakville MPP said he felt privileged to fill the role, one suited to his skill set. "Had I the ability to choose the ministry I would go to, it would be labour. It is a ministry I am really comfortable with. It is where I started my political time at Queen's Park as parliamentary assistant to the Minister of Labour," he said. There are now 23 ministries in the Ontario government. The cabinet features four new members, including Dr. Eric Hoskins who replaces Deb Matthews as minister of health and long-term care. "I am grateful for the trust the people of this province have placed in our government," said Wynne. "We will work hard every day to build Ontario up, to create new opportunities for people and to ensure a more secure future." New Patients Welcome! THE INNOVATORS OF COMFORTTM One area that is a focus of my practice is to help the many people suffering from advanced tooth wear and erosion. It seems this is a problem that is increasing but it can be treated if caught before it is too late. The main issue if you feel you suffer from any form of tooth wear is protection and prevention. If your tooth wear has been diagnosed at an early stage you can concentrate on preventing further tooth wear with diet modification, protective dental appliances and some limited dental bonding to restore the small areas of attrition or erosion. If tooth wear has progressed to the point that your protective enamel has been worn away and you have exposed your inner dentin you will likely need a more comprehensive solution. The pictures included are an example of a patient with severe attrition, erosion and bite collapse that I solved with a full mouth rehabilitation using porcelain restorations.
