Oakville defeated the host Indians 12-8 in Saturday's series opener, then prevailed 13-8 Sunday. The Buzz will host the remainder of the East Conference semifinal series this weekend at Oakville's Toronto Rock Athletic Centre. Game 3 is slated for Friday, beginning at 8 p.m. Andrew Kew led the Buzz attack last weekend, recording eight points (one goal, seven assists) Saturday and adding another seven (four goals, three assists) in Game 2. Eddie Renaud (two goals, three assists) and Keyan McQeen (five helpers) both struck for five points Saturday. Troy O'Donnell added a hat trick, Joe French had a goal and three assists, Robert Hudson and Pat Shea each scored twice, and Ryan Sullivan potted a single. Shea led all players Sunday with eight points (one goal, seven assists). French scored two goals and recorded five assists, and O'Donnell netted another hat trick. Jake Nyhuus, Colton Watkinson and Hudson had Oakville's other goals. Buzz goaltender Josh Falkenstern earned the victory in both contests. Oakville and Akwesasne finished the OLA regular season with identical 16-4 records. Akwesasne eliminated the Buzz from the playoffs in 2011 and 2012, and had won its past five home games against Oakville. The Indians entered last weekend with a 38-4 record in their last 42 games on their home floor. If Akwesasne extends the series with a victory this Friday, Game 4 would be contested the following night at TRAC. A fifth and deciding game, if necessary, would be played Sunday afternoon. The winner of the Oakville/Akwesasne series will face either the Clarington Green Gaels or Halton Hills Bulldogs in the East final. Halton Hills holds a 2-0 lead on the top-seeded Gaels after winning 13-5 Saturday in Clarington and 7-6 Sunday in Georgetown. Oakville used a seven-goal second period to down the Sarnia Beavers 11-7 Saturday, but then dropped an 11-9 decision to the firstplace Ennismore James Gang Sunday. Both contests were played at Glen Abbey Recreation Centre. Luke Laszkiewicz led all players Saturday with five points, all assists. Connor Latimer had a hat trick and Dylan Gilbert scored twice. Also tallying were Cam Monroe, Kevin Harper, Cody Simpson, Gage Board, Patrick Miles and Josh Gilray. Jay Preece collected the win in net. Latimer scored another three goals and added three helpers Sunday. Gilbert added two goals and three assists, and Monroe also notched a pair of goals. Board and Gilray were the other goal-scorers for the Titans. The fourth seed in the OLA playoffs, Oakville will face the fifth-ranked Owen Sound North Stars in the opening round. That series will open this Friday at Glen Abbey, a 7 p.m. start. Back-to-back wins move Rock into fourth in MSL The Oakville Rock has moved up to fourth in the Major Series Lacrosse standings following back-to-back wins over the Kitchener-Waterloo Kodiaks, the first time in team history the senior A club has won consecutive games. Oakville defeated the Kodiaks 7-6 Sunday in Waterloo, then concluded the sweep of the home-andhome series with a 9-7 win Monday at Toronto Rock Athletic Centre. Rob Hellyer scored the gamewinning goal with 48 seconds remaining in regulation time Sunday. Mike Mawdsley and Stephan Leblanc also scored in the last five minutes of the third period as the Rock rallied from a late 6-4 deficit. Goaltender Nick Rose held the Kodiaks scoreless in the final frame. Leblanc finished the contest with two goals and an assist. Aaron Brown, Patrick Miles and Damon Edwards had Oakville's other markers. The Rock won more comfortably Monday, building a 9-5 lead before K-W cut the Oakville lead in half with two goals in the final two minutes. Hellyer paced the Rock with a hat trick and two assists Monday, while Brenden Thenhaus contributed a goal and three assists. Leblanc had four helpers and Ethan O'Connor scored a pair of goals. Jacob Ruest, who also had two assists, Mawdsley and Edwards collected singles. Rose once again earned the victory in net. The Rock (5-8) will seek its fourth victory in five games Thursday when it visits the last-place Brampton Excelsiors.
