www.insideHALTON.com | OAKVILLE BEAVER | Wednesday, July 16, 2014 | 4 Mother works to honour memory of Sweet Scarlett by John Bkila Oakville Beaver Staff Oakville mother and baker Megan Ogilvie's heart is in her new business -- more than one may know. In fact, its name says it all. Sweet Scarlett Bakery & Café is named after Ogilvie's daughter, Scarlett, who died in February from birth complications -- the infant was just older than three months old. "Baking was always a hobby, something for me to do," said the 24-year-old, lifelong Oakville resident. "I was actually in school to be a lawyer and my parents wanted me to finish school, but with everything that happened with Scarlett, they decided to help me do this in memory of her." Since the bakery officially opened at 1495 Cornwall Rd., Unit 32, earlier this month, its fare has included the special Scarlett Cupcake. The vanilla cupcake with sprinkles costs $4, with 100 per cent of its sales revenue earmarked for Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids), where Ogilvie's daughter spent the first months of her short life. "The name of the bakery and everything we're doing for SickKids... it's in memory of her (Scarlett)," Ogilvie said. "Instead of dwelling on the negatives, I'm trying to do deal with things positively, and by bringing in SickKids -- she's still making a difference in the world even though she's not here." Scarlett died of complications associated with a condition called I've never been through anything like this before and the people there (at SickKids) are amazingly supportive, how involved they get...
