Members of the three clubs want to thank all their sponsors who support their Fundraising Events and the community who make their festivities fun and successful. The money raised by the clubs support local charities, bursaries, scholarships, and valuable learning experiences for youth, as well as Rotary International efforts to eradicate Polio, and provide clean water and sanitation to underprivileged communities around the world. Huang from Taiwan came up with the theme, Light Up Rotary, for 2014-15. Huang was moved by the teachings of Chinese philosopher Confucius who said: "It is better to light a single candle, than to sit and curse the darkness. " Huang explained at the 2014 International Assembly in San Diego California that people can feel overwhelmed with the world's problems and don't know how they can help. Confucius' message can inspire individuals to realize they can make a difference even if it is in a small way. Rotary's mission is to light themselves up by sharing how rewarding it is to be a member of over one million Rotarians worldwide who join together to exchange ideas and take action to help those in need. Rotarians have helped immunize more than 2 billion children against polio in 122 countries. Their goal is to eradicate polio in the three remaining countries where the virus remains endemic: Afghanistan, Nigeria, and Pakistan. They are focused on spreading the word to people that lighting up the darkness is not as challenging as they may think being part of a Rotary Club team.
