My family and I attended church regularly on and off until my parents got divorced. After my parents divorced, my mother was no longer accepted in the church and we stopped attending church altogether. For several years I was known as a geek, the loser, and the wannabe. At school was always picked on. I got bad grades and even though I tried to study and do all my home work, I was a mess. I always felt that my teachers and peers looked down on me. Then a neighbor told us about a new church he was starting. I wasn't too happy about going to church again, but after a couple visits, I felt accepted by the people there my age. Initially, I experienced some feelings of rejection again because I wasn't really a Christian in their eyes. I didn't know what to do-- I knew I had a loving family but I had no friends and I didn't seem to fit in at school or at church. Not very long after this, a family moved near my house and they just happened to have moved here to be part of the youth pro gram for my church. I was 12 years old at the time so I was allowed to attend. Through my youth pastor Jeff Hill and his wife Tina, I learned that God cared about me; in fact He cared so much that He sent his son to die for my sins. I now knew that I wanted to devote myself to Him and I did. Through the youth group, I also joined a program called "True Love Waits" which is a time to get together with our youth pastor and talk about how it is a sin to have sex before marriage. At the end of five weeks, I graduated from the course. We had a ceremony in front of our church family and I received a ring that my parents placed on my ring finger as a symbol of my commitment to Christ to remain sexually pure until marriage. Thanks to the love and guidance of Jesus, my family and my youth pastor and his wife, I have lots of friends, I am doing great in school and I am very involved with my church family, The Sanctuary. All I have to say is Thank you God.
