Who in their wildest dreams could ever imag ine that by the dedication and love of three women could make a child's dream come true. Together, along with 180 people on the evening of April 17 made up of friends, family and local business people a Dinner/Dance/Auction for " Dreams take Right" emerged, and "wow" what a night it was. The room was full of ener gy and love beyond belief. We ate. we danced, we sang and we rallied to make it a night that no one will ever forget. The generosity, friendship and thought fulness filled the room from the time the first person arrived and the last person left. Our hearts were over-flowing with joy and appreciation for all who came and all who donated, and because of this inspirational evening we were able to raise almost $20,000.. We were entertained by Liberty Silver, a two-time Juno Award Winner. She is such a lovely lady, and with her ever so powerful aura she brought the room to life. And who could not forget Starsband who. along with Liberty Silver, kept the room dancing and asking for more. Along with the entertainment we had the privilege of having a man by the name of Andy Craig as our lively and entertaining auctioneer. We would be remiss if we did not thank Invidiata Homes for its major Corporate Sponsorship and to Michael Mills from Pitney Bowes who donated the printed programs. We would also like to thank all those who donated auction items, sponsorships, support and time. Our inspiration has been prompted by the challenges of life that our special children must endure in their daily lives. Think of it like this. Just imagine living in a 2-foot by 2-foot box not being able to see. hear, walk or communicate. Well, this is what it is like every second, every minute and every hour of every day for thousands of mentally/physically chal lenged. under privileged and terminally ill children. Just think of them and how they, too. wish they could spread their wings like a butterfly and fly away for a day to lift their burdens. 1truly believe this can become a real ity and a dream come true. I have a friend whose son is terminally ill with an unknown disease and every day is a struggle of life for her and her family. She once told me (he hardest thing about his deteriorating body is that she has lost his angelic smile. She got involved in the " Dreams take Right" in hopes of seeing other children's angelic smiles transform like the caterpillar transforms into the beautiful butterfly. I too, have a need to see that happen, only because I have been blessed with three healthy and vibrant children. So, togeth er along with the two other ladies (Vinnie DiRollo and Marisa Bucciarelli) I involved myself in the "Dreams take Right". In our ever most fast-paced lives there comes a time when we need to stop and take a look around us at those who are suffering, just as you would be suf fering living in a 2-foot by 2-foot box. On May 22 at a Pearson Airport hanger we will see angelic smiles on all those special children's faces finally transforming into that beautiful butterfly. Special kids deserve a special day. In addition to the residential uses the Official Plan permits up to 930 m* of Neighbourhood Shopping Centre uses and up to 2300 m* of non-retail commercial space such as offices and private recreation facilities. Zoning - The site is zoned R8, Mixed Dwellings with a Special Provision 578 under Section 89 of the Zoning By-law. This special provision provides regulations for the uses on the land including a restriction of building height to 10 storeys and a maximum of 285 residential units. Under a Committee of Adjustment decision the number of units permitted on the site have been increased to 289 units and, in addition, 3 units are permitted as resident manager suites and not included in the maximum unit count (total of 292 units). The proposed building at 70 Old Mill Road is also regulated by this same special provision to permit 930 m2 of C1 uses and a maximum of 2300 mJ of leaseable floor area for a health club, business and professional offices and day nursery uses. Residential uses are not currently permitted at 70 Old Mill Rd. Propomal · The applicant has submitted an application involving a Zoning Amendment to address the following points: 1. increase the total number of residential dwelling units on the lands from 292 to 356. 2. increase the maximum height for #40 Old Mill Road from 10 storeys and 35 metres to 15 storeys and 50 metres which results in an increase of 42 units for this building. 3. add residential uses and long-term stay hotel suites as permitted uses for building #70 (22 units total) 4. recognize the 3 superintendent suites previously permitted through approval by the Committee of Adjustment as part of the common element and not as part of the residential component.
